I recently rewatched Raiders of the Lost Ark. I’ve seen it a million times and still maintain it’s one of the greatest films of the 20th century. Treasure hunting, whip flinging, a bad guy fighting Indy pursues the Ark of the Covenant. There are endless life lessons: Stay away from snakes, capuchin spy monkeys, and psychotic fortune-hunting competitors.
So what the heck does this have to do with fly fishing? Honestly, I have no idea but here’s the takeaway. Things never work out how we expect. We can plan, strategize, but things go awry. There are so many things beyond our control. What’s important is to be adaptable, flexible, and understand that every trip is an adventure.
Finally on your journey to chase Golden Dorado in Bolivia, if you stumble upon a sacred temple, don’t use a freaking sandbag to replace a golden relic on a pressure plate, arrow firing, rolling stone death trap. Just focus on the fishing.
